Prince Song's search for a bride brought him to the home of the Duke of Jiangsu where he was introduced to the beautiful Lady Yuan, the Duke's daughter. He also met Jiang Meng, one of the maids who attended to Lady Yuan. Although they were from seemingly different backgrounds, the Prince and Jiang Meng soon became friends. As a token of his appreciation for their time together, Prince Song presented Lady Yuan and Jiang Meng with a special gift each. However, only one of the ladies was chosen to be Prince Song's bride, the one who was presented with the jade slipper.
